San Antonio maintains a steady housing market in May

San Antonio Board of REALTORS® releases May 2010 real estate statistics

San Antonio, TX – June 15, 2010 - According to the May 2010 Multiple Listing Service report by the San Antonio Board of REALTORS® (SABOR), the number of single-family residential sales increased 19 percent when compared to May 2009. The average and median prices were up slightly from April 2010 to May 2010 at $177,051 and $145,900, respectively, but down slightly by four and five percent, respectively, when compared to this same time period last year.

“We are still seeing a good number of sales, many of which are linked back to the tax credit” said Marietta Alba, the San Antonio Board of REALTORS® 2010 Chairman of the Board. “Additionally, the springtime and summer months are usually a busy time for us seasonally, since people tend to move after their children have finished school.”

Nearly 73% of sales in San Antonio fell under $200,000 in May 2010. Interest rates remain very low and job growth continues throughout the city.

Additionally, months of inventory for San Antonio remain steady at approximately 7.8 months.

“San Antonio was ranked as one of the top six places to retire by Fortune Magazine,” Alba commented. “It’s evident with articles such as these that we are still peaking the media’s interest when it comes to cities that have weathered the recession relatively well, especially when compared to other parts of the country.”
