For Immediate Release:
San Antonio Board of REALTORS® releases August 2010 real estate statistics
San Antonio, TX – September 16, 2010 - According to the August 2010 Multiple Listing Service report by the San Antonio Board of REALTORS® (SABOR), August prices for single-family residential homes were up for the second consecutive month when compared to this same time last year. The average price increased 10% to $200,268 and the median price increased 7% to $159,600. The number of sales was down from this time last year at 1,604; however, the number of sales year-to-date was up four percent.
“The number of sales above $500,000 resulted in 5.1% of the overall number of sales in August” said Marietta Alba, the San Antonio Board of REALTORS® 2010 Chairman of the Board. “When the percentage of sales under $200,000 is lower, as it was again this month at 64.3%, and the percentage of sales over $500,000 remains higher, the average and median prices will be higher.”
San Antonio continues to top lists of cities that will rebound from the recession. According to one article released this month by the National Journal Magazine, San Antonio was one of three cities that have a population of 1 million or more that saw an increase in both net earnings and personal income.
“We have a lot of people and companies who are moving to this city that are helping our job market grow,” said Angela Shields, CEO of SABOR. “The Revised U.S. Census Bureau shows that our city has grown 18.43% (213,759 residents) in the last nine years. As our market remains affordable and buyers benefit from low interest rates, San Antonio will continue to be recognized as a great place to live.”
