Health and Wellness
Also in 2009, UHS received an Organ Donation Silver Medal of Honor from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is one of the “Top 25 Connected Healthcare Facilities in the Country” according to a study by HealthImaging magazine. UHS was also awarded the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Silver Performance Achievement Award. UHS was one of only 36 U.S. hospitals nationwide to earn this prestigious honor which signifies high-quality cardiac care.

2012 promises to be a huge year for UHS, as many of its current developments are slated to be completed. Known as Target 2012, UHS’ Capital Improvement Program includes the construction of a Trauma Tower at University Hospital that will bring the total number of patient beds from 498 to 721. The master plan calls for doubling the amount of space at University Hospital which will include an Emergency Center expansion, additional inpatient rooms and the replacement of many existing rooms in the oldest part of the hospital. New construction will also include a parking garage for 2,150 cars on the west corner of the campus and an additional 1,100 spaces for patient parking will be provided under the new trauma tower or in an alternate parking facility. Target 2012 also includes an expansion at University Health Center–Downtown, which will develop the Acute and Crisis Care services, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy services and parking.
